Traveling with Essential Oils
Below you will find a few essential oils that will benefit you on your travels. Be sure to check with the airlines regarding security procedures when traveling with liquids. These tips come courtesy of Amy Jane Stewart, BS Nationally Certified Holistic Aromatherapist.
PEPPERMINT
THEIVES© essential oil blend
AVOID DIRECT EYE CONTACT, FLUSH WITH CARRIER OIL OR WIPE WITH COTTON CLOTH. AVOID FLUSHING WITH WATER!
GENERAL IMMUNE SUPPORT, SINUS CONGESTION, PREVENTATIVE
- Before boarding the airplane, place one drop in the palm of the hands, massage hands together and inhale, massage around the earlobes and on the back of the neck.
BUG BITES
- Place 1 drop on a bug bite to neutralize the sting and itch
ANTIBACTERIAL
- After using public restrooms, place no more than one drop in the palm of the hands, massage hands together and inhale.
TIRED ACHY FEET AND MUSCLES
- Treat yourself or your travel companion to a foot or muscle massage by blending no more than 3 drops with a carrier oil or lotion. Apply on location.
TO COOL BODY TEMPERATURE
- Place no more than 3 drops on the back of the neck and massage, preferably with a carrier oil
MORNING PICK ME UP, ANTIBACTERIAL
- Place 1 – 3 drops in the bottom of the tub before starting the shower (DO NOT USE PEPPERMINT FOR A BATH, ONLY SHOWER)

COLDS & FLU PREVENTATIVE, GENERAL IMMUNE SUPPORT / PICK ME UP
- Before boarding the airplane, spray on hands, massage hands together and inhale, massage around the earlobes and on the back of the neck.
ANTIBACTERIAL, ANTIVIRAL
- After using public restrooms, spray on hands, massage hands together and inhale, massage around the earlobes and on the back of the neck.
TO CLEAR THE AIR or ODORS IN THE HOTEL, B&B, BED BUGS
- Spray the vents, pillows and sheets
FIRST SIGN OF COLD, FLU, SORE THROAT
- Open mouth and spray the back of the throat no more than twice, re-apply as needed.
LAVENDER
TO CALM OR RELAX BEFORE THE FLIGHT, MOTION SICKNESS
- Place 1 – 3 drops in the palm of the hands and inhale, massage the rest around the earlobes and on the back of the neck.
TO CLEAR THE AIR or ODORS IN THE HOTEL, B&B
- Place a few drops on a cotton ball and place in the vents
FOR A PEACEFUL NIGHT’S SLEEP, BED BUGS
- Place 3 drops in the palm of the hands and massage on pillows and sheets.
ANTIBACTERIAL
- After using public restrooms, place no more than 1 drop in the palm of the hands, massage hands together and inhale.
BUG BITES
- Place 1 drop on a bug bite to neutralize the sting and itch
TO KEEP A SUNBURN FROM PEELING, BLISTERING, HURTING
- Blend 5 – 10 drops with an ounce of aloe vera and apply gently on location.
DI-GIZE© essential oil blend
FOR UPSET STOMACH, DIAHREA, MOTION SICKNESS, PREVENTATIVE AGAINST STOMACH BUGS, NASEAU
- Place no more than 1 drop underneath the tongue
- Place no more than 1 drop in a glass of hot or cold water (preferably with honey or agave to blend), shake or stir and drink slowly.
- Massage 3 – 5 drops, preferably with a carrier oil on the belly
TRAVEL TIPS
- Place 1 – 3 drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and place in mini zip lock baggies, take them out during the flight and inhale. They are inconspicuous and don’t take up any room in your carry-on
- Use the inhalers instead of carrying full bottles on board the airplane. They are not considered liquids so you can keep them in your pocket and pull them out when you need them on the plane and simply inhale!
- Place a few drops of Lavender on a cotton washcloth and place in a zip lock bag in your carry-on. When you need a pick me up, take it with you to the bath room, wet it with warm water and wash your face and neck – wonderful!
- Please be respectful of the close areas on an airplane and those around you with sensitivities. You may want to do your “anointing” at the gate or in the restroom before you board
